October 2024 Social Star Of The Month John Pittman aka bartender 2 CEO

How long have you been in the industry? 

I have been in the industry since 2005, starting as a cook, moving to server in 2008, and then bartender in 2009 (I worked both as a server and bartender until 2018 when I went full bartender mode). 

 What made you choose this line of work? 

I picked it up as a side job during college, and once I got my degree, I dove deeper into the industry. I got jobs at better venues and even earned my sommelier certification. I love the idea of hospitality and meeting people as a career. 

 If you could change one misconception about the industry, what would it be?

 A: You don’t have to quit the industry to feel like you’ve made it. You can pair this job with other careers and actually do amazing. Bartending has allowed me to build my business stress-free. Many struggle to meet people, but I get paid to do it. 

 What is one piece of advice to anyone wanting to work in this industry? 

Stay locked in. Avoid vices. There are distractions and bad actors that can waste your valuable time. You can make enough to feel successful, but unless you’re working toward equity in something, you’re taking on major long-term risk. 

 Your videos are being seen across the world wide web! What do you hope to accomplish with the content you create? 

Media is my first access to “real estate.” I want it to appreciate over time and provide value long after I stop creating (if that happens). There was no industry progression guide when I came up, and I think documenting my journey can help others move faster through the industry. 

 When you go out to a bar, what is the one cocktail you would NEVER order from another bartender and why? 

Ramos Gin Fizz, because I’m not a prick lol.

I’ll make it red and sweet, using whatever ingredients I have close by. At a minimum, it’s usually a Sex on the Beach riff.

 • 2oz Cognac • 1oz Grand Marnier • 0.5oz Lemon Juice • 0.5oz Waffle Ginger Syrup (my own homemade mixture)
